After a great sign-to-work event a few months ago, we were happy to be invited back out to CATEC to supply the next generation of Albemarle County and Central Virginia’s hard workers with the boots they need to succeed. We’re honored to give back to our community and the people that rely on our footwear. Learn more about our newest trip out to CATEC below!
About CATEC
CATEC is short for Charlottesville-Albemarle Technical Education Center, and they offer a different path for hard working individuals to gain the skills and experience they need to land a great job in the trades. Available to both high school students and adults, many of CATEC’s graduates go on to service the Charlottesville-Albemarle area in a variety of fields. CATEC has a legacy to be proud of, and we’re proud to support them.
The Sign-To-Work Event
ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) — The Charlottesville Albemarle Technical Education Center prides itself on preparing its students for the workforce, from head to toe.
All semester, students learn the trade of their choice, and thanks to a partnership with Red Wing Shoes, students got the boots they need to start their career out on the right foot on Monday.
Chase Winston, a senior at Western Albemarle High School, spends his afternoons at CATEC, training to become an electrician, and as excited as he is to join the workforce, the tools needed to succeed are expensive.
“Most jobs now require you to have boots just because it’s for safety and boots are expensive nowadays,” said Winston.
After his fitting in the Red Wing Mobile Unit, Winston doesn’t have to worry about this expense.
“I’ve actually been saving for boots for a long time but now that they’re giving them to me, I feel very happy and blessed,” he said.
“It’s surprising, but a lot of times when a student goes into the skilled trades, they need to have their own tool belt, their own boots and that can be a big expense for our students,” said CATEC Director Stephanie Carter.
Knowing it’s set students up for success and safety is the center’s top priority.
“We know that when our students have those on their feet, they’re going to be safe and our students are going to leave us with a wonderful pair of boots to start their career,” said Carter.
…..
ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) – Eighty Charlottesville-Albemarle Technical Education Center students have new protective footwear thanks to a partnership with Red Wing Shoes that made it all happen.
“Our students that are getting boots today are electricity students, as well as building trade students, and emergency and medical technicians students. They’re all in training for skilled trade,” CATEC director, Stephanie Carter said.
Each year, CATEC provides students with uniforms and personal protective equipment, but on Monday it was all about the boots.
“I got a pair of high top boots, steel toe brown leather, I could wear them kind of anywhere, they go with anything as well. I’m just very happy to have them,” high school senior, Chase Winston said.
“We always want to make sure that our students are as safe as possible. These boots through Red Wing are top of the line,” Carter said.
For Red Wing Charlottesville, there’s nothing more satisfying than helping a hard worker get the job done. As we always say… WORK IS OUR WORK!
